What happens when Apple updates Volume Content Terms?

Apple periodically updates terms for Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager. When new terms are pending, your organization may be unable to enroll devices, sync ADE devices, or deploy new Volume Purchase Program (VPP) apps until an Administrator signs in to Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager and accepts the agreement. FileWave Central can also show a Dashboard error, and Apple synchronization will fail until the terms are accepted.

Beginning with Apple's July 27, 2023 terms update, Administrators can accept the Volume Content Terms on behalf of the whole organization. After an Administrator accepts the terms, Content Managers and other Administrators do not need to accept them individually for that same organization.

Apple's July 2023 update also clarified language around redemption of unused Volume Content balances. Treat that date as an example, not a one-time event. Apple can update VPP and ADE terms multiple times per year, and any unaccepted terms can interrupt Apple sync in FileWave.

Apple usually emails organizations before new terms take effect, but those messages can land with an unavailable administrator or get missed. If FileWave suddenly cannot sync Apple content or ADE devices, check Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager for pending terms before troubleshooting FileWave assignments.

For operational coverage, make sure more than one responsible Administrator can sign in to Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager and accept updated terms when Apple presents them.
