# Manage ADE Account Tokens in FileWave Anywhere

## What

An Automated Device Enrollment (ADE) token connects FileWave to an MDM server record in Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager. FileWave uses the token to synchronize assigned devices and ADE enrollment profiles. During Setup Assistant, an eligible Apple device receives the enrollment profile associated with its ADE assignment, which is why the token and device assignment must remain connected to the same MDM server record. If the token is missing, expired, or invalid, FileWave cannot synchronize device assignments or profile changes with Apple.

## When to use ADE Accounts

Use **Sources > ADE Accounts** in FileWave Anywhere to add a token, renew an expiring token, remove an obsolete token, or run an ADE synchronization.

## How

Edit and Deletion of Tokens are done from the actions menu for any particular token as shown below. Obviously one needs to take care before deleting a token, so you will be prompted for confirmation.

Editing (aka renewing) or adding a token consists of the following 3 steps:

1. Download the FileWave server's public Key and save it locally (this identifies the server to Apple)
2. Login to either ASM or ABM and add or update MDM server as appropriate with above public key, and then download the generated ADE token
3. Upload the ADE Token back into FileWave

<p class="callout warning">**ADE tokens expire after one year.** Renew the token before it expires, and use the same Apple MDM server record so the existing device assignments remain connected to FileWave.</p>

## ADE Synchronization

The FileWave Server synchronizes with Apple ADE services nightly. To synchronize sooner, select the token and click the sync icon (![Synchronize ADE account](https://kb.filewave.com/uploads/images/gallery/2023-07/c1JOaNPfyHT1oJr9-embedded-image-e4arhoin.png)). Choose **Sync** for routine updates. Use **Full Sync** only when troubleshooting or when instructed by FileWave Support.
