Azure Active Directory Is Now Microsoft Entra ID

What changed

Microsoft has announced the renaming ofrenamed Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) to Microsoft Entra ID.ID Thisin name2023. changeOlder aimsFileWave instructions, screenshots, Microsoft URLs, APIs, and configuration labels may still say Azure AD or AAD. Those names normally refer to unifythe same identity service, not a separate FileWave integration.

Why Microsoft changed the name

Microsoft placed the service within the Microsoft Entra product family, reflect the progressionfamily to modern multicloud identity security, and simplify secure access experiences.

When/Why

The name change is part of Microsoft's effort to streamlinegive its identity and access managementproducts offerings.a Bycommon renamingname Azure ADand to Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft intends to provide a consistentreflect identity security experience across itscloud and on-premises environments. This was a product-name change, not a replacement identity platform.

What administrators need to do

The rename did not require a tenant migration or a new FileWave configuration. Existing deployments and integrations continued to work. Use Microsoft Entra ID in current documentation, but preserve an older product lineup.label Thiswhen changean alignsAPI, withcommand, field, or screen still uses it.

Microsoft kept existing login URLs, APIs, PowerShell cmdlets, and Microsoft Authentication Library (MSAL) behavior during the company'srename. strategyAdministrators to enhance secure access for education organizations, corporations, state and local government, and other customers.

How

No action is required from users who are currently using Azure AD or deploying it in their organizations. The service willcould continue to function without interruption, and all existing deployments, configurations, and integrations will remain unaffected.

Users can still access the familiar capabilities of Azure AD throughuse the Azure portal, Microsoft 365 admin center, and the Microsoft Entra admin center. AllFeatures, features, capabilities, licensing,licensing terms, service-level agreements, product certifications, support, and pricing willdid remainnot change solely because of the same.

The new namename. forStandalone standaloneplan offersnames will bebecame Microsoft Entra ID Free, MicrosoftP1, and P2, and Entra ID P1, and Microsoft Entra ID P2. However, the capabilities included in the current Azure AD plans will not change. Microsoft Entra ID will continuecontinued to be included in Microsoft 365 licensing plans, such asapplicable Microsoft 365 E3plans.

  • Any deprecatedDeprecated or retired functionality, feature, or service of Azure AD features whose historical names remain in documentation
