Configure Android Enterprise in FileWave

Configure Android Enterprise before enrolling fully managed, work profile (BYOD), or zero-touch Android devices in FileWave. The setup binds FileWave to your organization's managed Google domain or managed Google Play enterprise.

Obtain the FileWave activation JSON

Android Enterprise management in FileWave requires an activation JSON file. Open a Technical Support case to request the file for your FileWave environment.

Set up Android Enterprise

Requirements

• A supported FileWave Server and FileWave Central version. Check the current release's platform support before enrolling devices.
• The activation JSON file supplied by FileWave Technical Support.
• An organization-owned administrator account for your managed Google domain or managed Google Play enterprise. Do not use a personal account whose access could leave with an employee.
• Android Enterprise network access. See Default TCP and UDP Port Usage for the current Google endpoints, FileWave ports, traffic direction, and topology.
• FileWave fwadmin access. Some enterprise-configuration controls are not available to lower-privilege FileWave accounts.

Google supports multiple EMM bindings:
A managed Google domain can bind multiple EMM instances or providers. Each binding receives its own Enterprise ID. Scope Google organizational units carefully so the same users and devices are not assigned to conflicting advanced-management services.

Android Enterprise does not use the separate Google messaging configuration documented for ChromeOS management.

Configure the enterprise binding

In FileWave Central, open Preferences → Google, then select Configure Enterprise under EMM Configuration. If the Google tab is not available after Android Enterprise is activated, restart the FileWave Server service and reopen Central.

1. In the Set Up an Android Management Enterprise window, select Choose File.
2. Select the activation JSON file, then select Upload.
3. Enter a display name for the enterprise and select Sign Up. The name identifies the binding in FileWave and may be visible on managed devices.
4. Select the provided link to continue in a browser, then complete Google's Android Enterprise registration with the organization-owned administrator account.
5. After registration, confirm that the browser returns to the FileWave Server and displays Enterprise "[display name]" successfully created.
