Booster System Requirements

Requirements

Before choosing or upgrading a Booster host, open the intended FileWave release on the Downloads Page and check FileWave Booster Platform Support. A Booster can run on physical hardware or a virtual machine, but its operating system, architecture, and virtual appliance requirements must match that release.

  • Use the Booster compatibility table, not the Client, Central, or Server table.
  • Check the exact OS version, edition, and architecture, and distinguish Fully Tested by QA from Expected to Work. A newly released OS is not automatically approved for a FileWave Booster.
  • For a virtual appliance, check the release's hypervisor and virtual-hardware requirements before downloading the Booster image.

The general guidance on CPU / RAM / Network / Storage is:

  • CPU: For physical hardware use at least the equivalent of an Intel Core i5 or Apple Silicon
  • CPU: For virtual hardware, use at least 2 virtual processors
  • RAM: Use a minimum of 8 GB of RAM with 16 GB recommended
  • Network: At least a 1 Gbit/s network connection
  • Storage: 1 TB is a recommended minimum, but this will depend highly on OS updates and Filesets as well as if Windows Imaging is in use leveraging a Booster

Make sure you have enough space on your hard disk to store the cached Filesets for your FileWave Clients. A Booster could conceivably contain a full mirrored set of all Filesets on the main FileWave server.

Size the cache for the Filesets, Windows updates, and image content that clients at the location will request. Use Booster Deployment Planning to plan placement and validate load, then follow Booster Installation for installation, configuration, and approval.
