FileWave Server System Requirements
Use this page to plan resources for a self-managed FileWave Server. Before choosing or upgrading its operating system, open the intended release on the Downloads Page and check FileWave Server Platform Support. FileWave Server can run on physical hardware or a virtual machine; use the release-specific OS, architecture, and virtual appliance requirements.
-
Use the Server compatibility table, not the Client or FileWave Central table. An OS supported for managed devices is not necessarily supported for hosting FileWave Server.
-
Check the exact OS version and architecture, and distinguish Fully Tested by QA from Expected to work. For a virtual appliance, also check the hypervisor and virtual-hardware requirements.
The minimum general guidance on CPU / RAM / Network / Storage is:
-
CPU: For physical hardware use, at least the equivalent of an Intel Core i5 or Apple M1. For virtual hardware, use at least 2 virtual processors.
-
RAM: Use a minimum of 8 GB of RAM with 16 GB recommended.
-
Network: At least a 1 Gbit/s network connection.
-
Storage: 1 TB is a recommended minimum, but this will depend highly on OS updates and Filesets as well as if Windows Imaging is in use.
Allow space for the operating system, FileWave database, Filesets, software-update content, and your backup plan. The minimum resources are a starting point, not a capacity guarantee for every fleet.
If FileWave hosts your Server, FileWave manages the server infrastructure; you do not need to provision a separate Server host. For a new self-managed installation, follow FileWave Server Setup to prepare the network, server identity, authorized access, and the appropriate macOS or Debian appliance installation route.
