FileWave Administrator and Appliance Passwords

FileWave administrator account

A new FileWave installation includes an initial administrator with full FileWave permissions. Change this password when you first sign in. The default FileWave application account is:

  • Name: fwadmin
  • Password: filewave

In FileWave Central, open Assistants → Manage Administrators, select fwadmin, choose Set Password, and enter a unique password. This changes the FileWave application administrator password; it does not change the appliance operating-system password.

Appliance SSH and Webmin password

FileWave 15.5.0 and later appliances use the fwadmin operating-system account; direct root login is disabled. Earlier appliances may use root. The appliance account is separate from the FileWave application administrator even if both accounts are named fwadmin.

Sign in to the appliance through SSH with the account for its FileWave version, then run:

passwd

Enter and confirm the new password at the prompts. On FileWave 15.5.0 and later appliances, Webmin can also change the fwadmin password. Restrict SSH and Webmin access to trusted administration networks.

For the complete Webmin procedure, including the account to select for each FileWave version, see Change a FileWave Appliance Password in Webmin.
