3.2 Extra Metrics for FileWave Dashboard
What Extra Metrics adds
Extra Metrics is a third-party tool that creates FileWave Dashboard reporting elements. It can save time when building application-version and patch-status panels, but FileWave does not develop or support the tool. For the manual custom-panel workflow, start with 3.1 Aggregating Data. This page describes the automated alternative.
When to use it
Use Extra Metrics when its supplied panels match your reporting needs and you are comfortable maintaining a community package. Patch-status elements are hard-coded. Application-version panels use FileWave Reports that you can adjust for your environment. Read the filewave-extra-metrics project documentation for its published installation instructions and requirements. Those instructions describe a FileWave 14-era setup; confirm compatibility with your Server release before installing.
Before installation: the project requires Server SSH access, a dedicated API token with inventory and query-creation rights, a trusted TLS certificate and an externally reachable DNS name. Have the server administrator review the package and setup instructions. If FileWave hosts your Server, contact FileWave Support to discuss the requirement rather than attempting the Server installation yourself.
Use a separate Python virtual environment. The project explicitly warns against installing Extra Metrics directly into the Python runtime used by FileWave Server. Keep that isolation when following the external installation instructions.
Example
The video shows Extra Metrics already installed, then adds a FileWave Report for Firefox versions on macOS devices.
