Moving the App Portal Web Clip using the Home Screen Layout Payload

Use a supervised iPhone or iPad enrolled in FileWave MDM. Apple’s Home Screen Layout payload locks the configured layout so the user cannot rearrange it. Review any existing layout first: Apple allows only one Home Screen Layout payload per user or device. Use Apple Profile Filesets for profile creation and pilot deployment.

Current App Portal. On FileWave 16.3.0 and later, FileWave Kiosk is delivered as an App Store / Apps and Books app, with bundle ID com.filewave.ios.app.kiosk3. Follow Automatic updating of iOS/iPadOS Kiosk to prepare its licenses and deployment; Home Screen Layout controls placement, not app installation.

To place the current Kiosk app, use com.filewave.ios.app.kiosk3 in the Home Screen Layout payload. The two screenshots here show the older App Portal app, com.filewave.ios.app.kiosk2; do not copy that older identifier for the App Store Kiosk.

After deploying the profile to a pilot device, confirm that the profile is installed and that Kiosk appears in the intended folder or position and opens successfully. If the app is missing, check its installation and Apps and Books licensing separately from the layout.

Legacy Web Clip workflow. The remaining steps apply only to older environments that still use the Web Clip version of App Portal.

To move the App Portal Web Clip using the Home Screen Layout Payload, locate the URL of the web clip from any iOS device settings:

• Settings App > General > Device Management > FileWave MDM > More Details

 "Web Clip" as seen below: 

Copy the Web Clip address into the Home Screen Layout payload, then replace the device-specific string at the end with %device_id%.

In this example:

Use the resulting URL in the Home Screen Layout payload instead of an app name. The legacy App Portal Web Clip will then appear in the selected folder.
