Set Safari Homepage (macOS)

What this profile controls

This Custom Settings profile sets Safari's homepage preference for users on a managed Mac. The optional window and tab keys below control whether Safari opens that homepage automatically.

Test on current macOS and Safari versions. The screenshots and original validation are from macOS 10.13.2 and Safari 11.0.2, so use a pilot Mac before broad deployment.

Requirements

• FileWave Central or FileWave Anywhere with permission to create and deploy macOS profiles
• The homepage URL and a pilot Mac

Directions

1. Create a New Desktop Fileset and select the Profile option
2. Name the profile in the General payload, then add these values to Custom Settings:
   
   Preference Domain: com.apple.Safari
   Key: HomePage
   Type: String
   Value: the full homepage URL, for example https://www.filewave.com

    3. Close the Profile Editor 

    4. Double click on the newly created profile → select the settings tab → uncheck the box for "Users" under installation and check the box for "System" under installation. 

5. Create a Deployment for a pilot Mac, update the model, and verify the homepage plus new-window and new-tab behavior before expanding the Deployment.

Notes

The homepage preference does not by itself force new windows or tabs to open the homepage. Add the following keys when that behavior is required:

Type: Number
Value: 0
(Description: Policy for new window contents. 0 = show homepage\, 1 = show empty page\, 2 = show same page as current window/tab\, 3 = show bookmarks)
