Software Updates: Rollout Plans

Rollout Plans are disabled in FileWave 16 and later. The steps and screenshots below describe the older Rollout Plan workflow, not scheduling for FileWave 16+.

For FileWave 16+, use Software Update Filesets and Deployment scheduling instead. Follow Manage OS Software Updates with FileWave for activation timing, reboot deadlines and pilot verification, or the Software Update Deployment guide for staged Alpha, Beta and Production groups. These are separate from the legacy preset windows shown below.

Legacy Rollout Plans

FileWave 14.5 introduced Rollout Plans to deploy Software Updates during specified hours of the day or week. The following procedure is retained for older environments that still provide this feature.

When/Why

Software Updates can be bothersome in a production environment because they so often require a reboot of the endpoints, and no one wants that interruption during a production day.  Rollout Plans allow you to specify what time of day, or time of week these installations can happen.

The legacy installation windows are fixed presets. Do not assume these controls provide customizable windows or scheduling for other types of deployment.

Legacy procedure

Using Rollout Plans is rather simple...with any Software Update selected, just select group(s) and device(s), then click on Rollout Plan in the lower right:

Once you have made you selection, you will see it reflected in the admin, like:

When you then click on "Deploy to Selected devices" (and update model), the updates will download immediately, but won't actually install until the effective time window.
