Create Deployment

What

Create a deployment when you need FileWave Anywhere to connect one or more payloads with devices or groups. Deployments can also include exclusions for devices or groups that should not receive the payload.

When/Why

For a simple deployment, target a manual group or individual devices, such as every device that owns an Adobe Photoshop license. For a scoped rollout, target a broader group such as Production, then add an exclusion for the Managers Smart Group. Deployments can also target LDAP OUs.

How

To create a new deployment, select the plus ( ) in the top right.

Give the deployment a clear name in the top left. Good names make deployments easier to filter and audit later.

Naming the Deployment is only the first step. Prepare the content and confirm the intended devices are enrolled and communicating through the management method it requires, then complete the following checks:

1. Choose targets and exclusions. Start with an approved test device or pilot group. A Deployment with no targets cannot deliver content.
2. Add the content that those targets should receive. Every included item applies to the Deployment’s target scope, so check the content list as carefully as the device list.
3. Set the installation options, including direct installation or Kiosk self-service, timing and Apps and Books license distribution where applicable.
4. Review the Deployment Summary and correct unexpected targets, exclusions, content or download size before publishing.
5. Save the completed Deployment, review other administrators’ pending changes, and update the Model when ready. A retained draft is not a published Deployment, and a Model Update is not confirmation that devices have installed the content.
6. Confirm the intended result on the pilot device before expanding the rollout. Check the app version or effective setting as well as the applicable delivery status. Kiosk availability alone does not prove installation.
