Installing the FileWave Central application
Install FileWave Central, the administration application for macOS and Windows, on your administrator workstation. You can also install it on a computer used to create Fileset Magic Filesets or prepare images for the Imaging Appliance. The installer and application filenames may still use FileWave Admin.
System Requirements for the FileWave Central application
Before installing, identify your FileWave Server version and open the matching release on the Downloads page. In its Compatibility section, expand FileWave Central (Native) Platform Support and check your administration computer's operating system and architecture. Use the Central matrix, not the Client or Server matrix.
- For macOS, check both the OS version and Intel or Apple Silicon eligibility for that FileWave release.
- For Windows, check the edition, OS version, and architecture listed for that FileWave release. Keep Fully Tested by QA and Expected to work distinct; they do not mean the same level of testing.
Installing the FW Admin application
On the FileWave Software Downloads page, select the release that matches your FileWave Server, then choose macOS Central (Admin) or Windows Central (Admin) for your workstation. Open the downloaded FileWave Admin.pkg or FileWaveAdmin.msi; do not choose the Server, Client, or Booster installer. Complete installation using a local administrator account on that computer.
Once the FW Admin application is installed, you will launch it and begin the configuration.
Logging into FileWave server from the FW Admin application
When you launch the FileWave Admin application, you will be presented with a login window. You can search for FileWave Servers in your network with the Bonjour menu (OS X only). Recent server connections are saved in the Recent Servers Menu. In case your Server operates on another port than the default (20016), specify the port needed. Otherwise please leave the port on the default. Enter the IP address or domain name (FQDN) of the FileWave Server you are going to administer.
Use the FileWave application account for this Server. Hosted customers use the address and credentials supplied by FileWave; administrators of an existing Server use their assigned account. For a fresh self-managed Server only, the initial application username is fwadmin and password is filewave; change that password immediately after the first successful connection. This is separate from the appliance operating-system account, even if both are named fwadmin. Follow FileWave Central Setup for the first-login and password checks. Click on Connect to log into the server and you will be presented with the default layout.
Note: The Windows version of FileWave Admin has two additional buttons:
- Client Monitor. Allows you to view the status of any FW client without logging into the FW Central application.
- Fileset Magic. Allows you to open Fileset Magic to create custom Filesets without logging into FW Central.
