FileWave Anywhere Overview

FileWave Anywhere is the browser-based interface for reviewing and managing devices on a FileWave Server without installing FileWave Central on the administrator's workstation. Depending on administrator permissions and device type, it provides device inventory, Fileset status, installed applications, users, group membership, policies, and Apple MDM command history.

You can open FileWave Anywhere from FileWave Central or browse directly to the HTTPS address of your FileWave Server:

  • In FileWave Central, open the File menu and select the web-console option available in your release.

  • Or browse directly to https://FileWaveServerAddress.

Example: If the server address is filewave.example.org, open https://filewave.example.org.

FileWave Anywhere uses HTTPS on TCP port 443. Administrators outside the internal network can connect only when the FileWave Server is reachable from their location and permitted by the organization's network policy.

Before installing or upgrading a self-managed FileWave Server, resolve any other local service already bound to port 443. The installer stops rather than replacing an existing listener.

The error message in the macOS install log and Windows/CentOS terminal appears as follows:

  • 'FileWave requires port 443, but has noticed this port is already in use. To prevent a broken installation, FileWave has not installed/upgraded and your system has NOT been altered. Please contact Support for more information.'

The signed-in administrator's permissions determine which devices, inventory, and actions are available in FileWave Anywhere. See Managing FileWave Administrators to configure access.

Depending on platform, enrollment type, and permissions, the client Details area can include:
